Project Engineer – Honolulu

Crawford Architects is seeking a Project Engineer to join our growing Honolulu office. We promote a creative and collaborative team culture as we strive toward innovation and excellence in our unique practice. In this role, you will assist in the overall efforts of various project phases, including RFQ/P coordination, developer on-boarding, compliance and documentation. Essential job responsibilities may include the following:

  • Work within a dynamic environment to perform assignments under the supervision of firm principals, project managers, and architects.
  • Develop, modify and/or review drawings according to established standards
  • Review of developer’s architectural documents for contractual compliance with design standards
  • Quality assurance for the documentation of all phases in compliance with established QA/QC and Best Practice Standards
  • Understanding and communication of design intent, product and code research, into technical documents
  • Assist with programming and master planning efforts
  • Provision of construction administration services – overseeing project completion
  • Client, consultant, and contractor project information coordination
  • Maintaining relationships with clients, sub-contractors, and construction team
  • Create graphics and research information for inclusion in marketing and promotional materials

Candidates will have to meet the following minimum qualifications for consideration.

Education: Bachelor’s degree(s) from an accredited institution.

Experience: Engineering professional with 3-5 years of experience in the practice of project management, construction, or related field.

Location: Applicant must be a resident of the State of Hawai’i

Technical Skills / Software Capabilities: Candidates should have strong technical skills/proficiency with the following tools:

  • AutoCAD
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Sustainability Requirements, including USGBC/LEED standards

Soft Skills: Priority will be given to candidates who effectively demonstrate the following:

  • Strong knowledge of design principles
  • Ability to interpret design concepts/layouts, including commonly-used architectural standards, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of building regulations, life-safety codes, design techniques, tools, and design principles involved in the production of precision technical plans

Construction Specialist/Administration Position – Kansas City

The following are intended to be examples of the accountabilities for which the person in this position is responsible. This position description is not intended to be complete or all-inclusive and does not preclude leadership from assigning other or related functions if such functions are a logical assignment for the position.

  • Develop a strong understanding of the role that Crawford is to serve to our clients including a thorough understanding of each project’s scope of work, contract documents including drawings, specifications, design and construction contract as well as regulatory requirements associated with each project.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively, maintaining schedules and meeting deadlines
  • Coordinate and review design drawing and specifications submittals, log and upload submissions to document management system, track design changes and manage the document control system.
  • Maintain accurate up to date project information in Project Management Information System (PMIS). Assist with maintenance of computerized project reports as required.
  • Assist with management of all projects to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with Crawford standards and client expectations. 
  • Change Order Management: Review entitlement, evaluate potential costs and schedule impacts, log and track contractor-submitted Change Order Requests (CORs)/Potential Change Orders (PCOs), and provide recommendations as directed. Follow-up with contractor with missing back-up information or clarifications.
  • Review contractor’s Requests for Information (RFIs), log issue and monitor design team’s responses. Ensure that RFIs are issued with clarity and the design team responds expeditiously and appropriately.
  • Project Schedules: Assist in the establishment of a master schedule to ensure that the project is completed within agreed upon time and cost constraint. Review contractor’s schedule and provide comments review monthly schedule updates and comment.
  • Monitor construction progress to ensure that projects are completed in compliance with agreed upon quality standards and specifications.
  • Assist with monitoring of required field testing and inspections. Maintain logs and upload reports onto project documentation management system.
  • Coordinate Project Close-out. Review all contractor Close-out submittals as required.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Developing, training and mentoring Project Coordinators and other staff.
  • Personal development through professional organization memberships, continuing education, professional registration and certification achievement.
  • Other dutes as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • The person in this position may have project coordinators and administrative support staff reporting to him/her.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience relevant construction project experience with progressive project responsibilities. Construction experience with athletic facilities or higher education is a plus.
  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Architecture or other degrees related to construction project management/supervision or equivalent professional experience in lieu of education.
  • Requires working knowledge of the principals of cost estimating, scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Ability to accurately interpret construction contractual documents and contract modifications to determine cost of such change.
  • Accurately analyzes situations and assists in developing contingencies for estimates.
  • Must possess proficient oral and written communication and presentation skills and able to communicate effectively with wide variety of people with diverse background of all levels and disciplines.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with co-workers, managers, clients and others in contact with the job.
  • Must have strong customer service orientation and assess customer needs and ensure delivery/receipt of service when appropriate.
  • Able to efficiently and effectively handle multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency with of MS Office Suite, as well as project management information system software such as Oracle
  • Primavera Unifier, Prolog, ProCore, PM Web, and/or eBuilder.
  • P6 experience is preferred.
  • Travel will be required
  • AutoCad, Revit and Bluebeam experience also preferred.
